Our client is a leading global engineering, consulting and construction company specialising in infrastructure development in the fields of energy, water and information.

Offering a broad range of consulting, engineering, procurement and construction services encompassing virtually all areas of the energy market, including power generation and delivery and the hydrocarbon and chemical industry, provides its clients with enduring service and relationships that span the life cycle of energy assets.

Project Engineer/ Power Plant

Key task:

Provide high quality advice to clients through effective project engineering through the consultancy organisation and resources of the parent company

Specific responsibilities:

• The Project Engineer may undertake the position of project engineer and/or mechanical/electrical engineer in various projects and will be required to liaise with the Client on the technical and commercial aspects of projects.
• The nature of the projects are mostly advisory, with clients including developers, plant operators, banks, but may also include design, design review and construction supervision.
• The work will be varied but will generally be associated with acting as advisor relating to the building of new or the purchase / extension / improvement of existing, power plant. This will involve the evaluation and optimisation of the proposals of others or proposing the basic design parameters for new/revised plant.

• Specification preparation, report writing and technical evaluation of bids are also features of the job and hence computer literacy particularly for word processing and spreadsheet packages is essential.

• Some international travel will be necessary from time to time, depending on the location of projects, with the opportunity for negotiations with customers and their contractors and hence cultural awareness is necessary.

Qualifications:

The engineer shall meet the following requirements:
• Qualified to a minimum level of a B.Sc. Engineering or B.Eng. degree in a mechanical or electrical discipline and should preferably be a Member of IMechE/IEE.

Essential Experience:

• This position is effectively that of a senior mechanical/electrical engineer with a background in electrical power generation. This experience should preferably have been gained with an original equipment manufacturer or an international power consultancy.

• A high level of experience in power generation, with particular experience in two or more of the following technologies:
- Boilers, fuelled by coal, oil, biomass and/or gas
- Heat recovery steam generators
- Steam turbines
- Gas turbines in simple cycle, cogeneration or combined cycle configurations
- Power station electrical auxiliary systems
- Generators and motors
- Transformers
- Switchgear
- Power and auxiliary cables
Balance of plant associated with electricity generation.

Design capability in one or more of the above would also be an advantage

• Project engineering experience of power related projects.

Desirable Experience:

• Experience in the following will be an advantage:
- Water treatment for power plant
- Desalination
- Fuel and ash handling

• A good understanding of other disciplines (Civil and Control) will be an advantage as the engineer will be working in integrated teams and inputs from other disciplines. Appreciation of environmental requirements will be an advantage.

2. The Candidate

• Computer literacy. The applicant shall be competent in the following packages: MS Windows and MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); MS Project; AutoCAD or other CAD packages will be an advantage.
